The Digital Cluster of Catalonia participates in the REVIA project (Experimental development of advanced solutions for the second life of batteries in terms of sustainability, circularity and digitization), an initiative approved in the last call for grants to Agrupacions Empresarials Innovadores (AEI), within Line 4 of R+D+i projects in cooperation to respond to strategic challenges.
With a budget of €811,121, REVIA wants to promote a new second-life battery management model aligned with European circular economy policies, strengthening industrial competitiveness and strategic autonomy in the field of electric mobility. The project is part of the European challenge of innovative components for a new mobility ecosystem, in line with the Industrial Action Plan for Automotive and the Compass for Competitiveness of the European Commission.
The consortium consists of four clusters and several SMEs and technology entities covering the entire value chain. The CIAC - Cluster of the Automotive Industry of Catalonia, the MAV Cluster - Advanced Materials of Catalonia, the Centro Español de Plásticos (CEP) and the Clúster Digital de Catalunya are participating, together with companies and centers such as Millor Battery, Rotimpres, Leartiker, Cadtech Solutions and Inèdit. This ecosystem combines expertise in automotive, advanced materials, plastics, digitization, blockchain, artificial intelligence and circular economy.
REVIA aims to promote a comprehensive transformation of the industrial processes linked to the manufacture, reconditioning and traceability of second-life batteries, especially aimed at light electric vehicles. The project is organized around two main lines of technological development. On the one hand, the design and validation of advanced polymeric envelopes, lighter and recyclable, with flame retardant properties and thermal management systems. On the other hand, the development of a digital twin of the production plant that allows you to simulate scenarios before their actual implementation, optimize logistics flows, reduce the generation of waste and improve data-based decision-making.
These actions are complemented by an analysis of the life cycle and environmental impact of the solutions developed, integrating eco-design criteria from the initial phases of the project. The aim is to ensure that technological innovations not only improve industrial performance, but also measurably contribute to the reduction of emissions, the efficient use of resources and the consolidation of a circular model for the second life of batteries.
This project is key for the cluster as it represents a pioneering collaboration to promote advanced solutions that facilitate the reuse of batteries, reduce the environmental impact and strengthen the positioning of the Catalan industrial fabric in the new European ecosystem of electric mobility.
REVIA is a project financed by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, within the program of the call corresponding to 2025 for grants to support Innovative Business Groups (AEI) in order to improve their competitiveness and their contribution to strategic autonomy.
